Advanced Energy introduced Excelsys FC1500, the industry's first capacitor charger and multi output power supply. The FC1500 can provide constant charging power, so that medical laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment equipment no longer need multiple sets of power supplies.

Traditional laser and intense pulsed light systems rely on capacitors that are charged at high voltage and then discharged to generate large current pulses. The FC1500 can provide a constant 1500W power in the full charging voltage range of 200V to 1000V, which can improve the capacitor charging speed when used in the low voltage situation of the hybrid technology system, which helps to shorten the treatment time. Traditional systems also require multiple sets of power supplies to provide low-voltage AC DC power supplies for system electronic devices (such as touch screens, pumps, cooling elements and other treatments) and high-voltage charging power supplies for high-voltage capacitors. The FC1500 is a fully integrated capacitor charging and AC DC power supply. A single device can meet these power supply requirements.

"The FC1500 uses a unique design of three in one capacitor charger, AC DC power supply and intelligent control to provide multiple benefits for medical equipment manufacturers (OEMs)," said Conor Duffy, vice president of Advanced Energy Medical. "These benefits include a 30% reduction in size, weight reduction, increased reliability, reduced EMI, simplified safety certification, and compliance. In addition, the power supply is highly configurable, ensuring the best solution for any design."

When used for capacitor charging, the FC1500 can operate with high capacitance and low capacitance loads, and can provide up to 1500W of constant power (1500 J/s) within the programmable charging voltage range of 0-1000VDC. Through the adaptive control of each pulse, the pulse to pulse stability of+/- 0.2% repetition accuracy is achieved. At the same time, programmable power limitation enables the system to maximize the current consumption of wall sockets. By accurately calculating the stress on the system capacitor, the current detection signal improves the reliability to a higher level.

When used for system power supply, the FC1500 can provide up to 800W rated power and up to 10 independent DC outputs. The field configurable output realizes "plug and play", which can meet specific application requirements. Output connections are available in series and parallel, allowing designers to select higher voltages and currents.

The FC1500 integrates intelligent analog and digital control through PMBus, and its storage capacity can accelerate the time to market of medical equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The internal air-cooled power supply device complies with the requirements of IEC60601-1 (the third edition) and IEC60601-1-2 (the fourth edition), and achieves level 4 input surge protection. The certified safe use height reaches 3000 meters above sea level, and the MTBF (mean time between failures) exceeds 900000 hours.
