Melexis announced the launch of the MLX81143 LED driver chip, adding to the MeLiBu product line. The product integrates 21 LED constant-current sources and improves power management throughout the system. The MLX81143 has a very wide dimming range to achieve excellent brightness adjustment both day and night. The MeLiBu interface supports simultaneous driving of up to 3,000 leds in the vehicle, providing dynamic safety warnings and enhanced communication between the vehicle and the driver.

Currently, car manufacturers use dynamic lighting in their cars to convey vital information such as driver assistance cues and vehicle status updates. Color changes and various flashing sequences enhance the information that requires driver attention. However, this also presents a number of engineering challenges, such as the need to make all leds the same color and ensure they change at the same time.

Molex Launches PCIe Cable Connection System MLX81143 for Open Source Computing Project Server Integrated Melexis CAN over UART MeLiBu  (No patent license fee) solution, which can meet the above challenges. This high-speed communication interface can control each LED separately to achieve the lighting effect defined by the vehicle system. The intelligent RGB LED controller can also provide real-time compensation for any color deviation caused by environmental changes, and the color mixing accuracy is less than 1% to ensure that there is no significant difference between LEDs.

MeLiBu technology has been adopted by many multinational automobile manufacturers. MeLiBu communication interface is based on CAN-FD physical layer, providing stable and reliable performance at a speed of up to 2 Mbit. The combination of UART and MeLiBu (CAN-FD) protocol can realize intelligent high-resolution operation, reduce temperature related color deviation, and help to provide a consistent and non distracting user experience under various operating conditions.

MLX81143 has passed AEC-Q100 certification and reached ASIL standard. The chip meets the functional safety requirements of ISO 26262 and can reach ASIL B functional safety level. MLX81143's architecture helps designers meet EMC requirements. At the same time, the chip has low EMI radiation and high EMI interference resistance.

"MLX81143 is the third product integrated with MeLiBu launched by Melexis. This technology can realize the scalable solution of lighting system and new application functions," said Michael Bender, manager of Melexis embedded lighting product line, "This chip is a new member of the MeLiBu product family, which can drive more LEDs, so it can further reduce the number of chips required for each application. In addition, the product integrates intelligent options, which can also help customers improve their power management design."
