Microchip has introduced a new family in its PIC32MX1 / 2 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) family, which features a large 256KB flash configuration and 16KB RAM (small package). The company says the latest additions to these popular MCU families provide flexibility for low-cost applications that require complex algorithms and application code, and combine with Microchip's comprehensive software and tools for graphics, touch sensing and general purpose embedded control design . . The new PIC32MX1 / 2 MCU family has a wealth of features, including performance up to 50 MHz / 83 DMIPS, for performing advanced control applications and mTouch capacitive touch sensing. Other features include an enhanced 8-bit parallel master port (PMP) for graphics or external memory; and a 10-bit, 1Msps, 13-channel analog-to-digital converter (ADC), support for SPI and I2S serial communication interfaces, and USB devices / Host / Mobile (OTG) function. Microchip's MPLAB Harmony software development framework further simplifies design by integrating Microchip, third-party middleware, drivers, libraries, and real-time operating system (RTOS) licenses, resale, and support. In particular, Microchip's off-the-shelf software packages, including USB stacks, graphics and touch libraries, can significantly reduce development time for applications such as consumer, industrial, and general-purpose embedded control. Designers trying to launch consumer products with capacitive touch screens, touch buttons or sliders, and USB devices / hosts / OTG connectivity can benefit from the features of the PIC32MX1 / 2 series MCUs. The feature-rich peripherals of these MCUs are also ideal for medical and industrial applications. In addition to general-purpose embedded control and connectivity functions, these applications also include displays with touch-sensing capabilities. Microchip's free MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and PIC32's MPLAB XC32 compiler support this latest PIC32MX1 / 2 family. MPLAB ICD 3 in-circuit debugger and MPLAB REAL ICE in-circuit emulation system (DV244005) are also provided. In addition, the PIC32MX270F256D plug-in module (MA320014) for the Explorer 16 development board supports the new family.
