Murata's MAGICSTRAP is a rugged miniature RFID tag module that can withstand the injection molding process and can be embedded in the PCB to protect its service life. By copying and pasting a free standard pattern into a PCB layout, the ground plane can be used as a tag-enhancing antenna. This eliminates the need for a dedicated antenna design, making it easy to use. A MAGICSTRAP variant with an I2C interface allows it to be used for software configuration and low-cost air interfaces. Some UHF and all HF / NFC variants come with integrated antennas, making them useful as ultra-compact tags capable of surviving harsh environments such as injection molding. The company said that this technology has important applications in all areas of electronics, especially sensor applications, the Internet of Things, industrial PCs, LED applications, PLCs, factory automation, measurement and test equipment.
