New EMC Filters for LED Lighting Applications

Technology Cover
Post-datum: 2022-02-12, Schaffner EMC Inc.

Schaffner extends the range of filters for LED lighting applications with the new FN2560 filter series. This new strainer comes in an attractive space-saving compact package with single-strand solid wire termination for easy, flexible and reliable installation. This filter is designed for the attenuation needs of the lighting industry and its performance starts at frequencies as low as 9kHz.

Operating temperature range is -40℃ to 100℃. Typical applications are LED drivers, LED devices and displays, street lamps and signs, industrial and architectural lighting, fluorescent lamp ballasts or any other applications requiring high differential mode performance.

In terms of common mode attenuation performance, there are three different performance levels to choose from, offering three different leak ratings.

For applications requiring low reactive current, the FN2564 is another version. The device has no X-capacitance between the gate and the neutral line and, therefore, no high-frequency current between the lines. This is useful in reactive current limiting applications.

The FN2560 is suitable for typical European voltages of 300VAC/300VDC and is rated for 1A, 2A, 5A and 8A, while the replacement FN2580 is rated for 350V to accommodate common international voltages.

They are globally certified by ENEC, CQC, UL, UKCA and CSA and meet the requirements of RoHS and REACH regulations. And all of these new filters have a maximum continuous operating voltage of 300VAC, 50/60Hz and rated current up to 10A.
