ROHM, a world-renowned semiconductor manufacturer, has developed a step-down DC-DC converter IC for increasingly complex in-vehicle applications including in-vehicle sensors and cameras (advanced driver assistance systems) and infotainment systems*1" BD9S402MUF-C”.

In recent years, in the automotive field, with the innovation of accident prevention and autonomous driving technology, the requirements for safety performance have become higher and higher. At the same time, the SoCs and microcontrollers that control ADAS systems, including on-board sensors and cameras, are becoming increasingly complex (higher current for more processing power and lower voltage for power savings), which requires the power ICs that power them , to operate more stably under the severe conditions of load current fluctuations. In order to meet the characteristic requirements for these power supply ICs, ROHM established the ultra-high-speed pulse control technology "Nano Pulse Control™" for low-voltage output in 2017, and established the high-speed load response technology "QuiCur™" for stable operation in 2021. This time, by incorporating QuiCur™ technology into a new ROHM product for the first time, it has achieved the industry's leading ultra-stable operation in an automotive secondary-side DC-DC converter IC with the same performance.

The new products meet the small size, 4A output current, switching operating frequency above 2MHz, and 0.6V low-voltage output required by the secondary side*2 power supply applications of SoC (System on a Chip) and microcontrollers with increasing performance. In addition, by incorporating ROHM's own high-speed load response*3 technology "QuiCur™", the output voltage fluctuation is reduced by 25% compared with ordinary products with the same function, and it is only 30mV, realizing ultra-stable operation (test conditions: output voltage 1.2 V, the output capacitor capacity is 44µF, and the load current fluctuates 0→2A/2µs), which makes it very suitable for high-end ADAS applications with severe power supply conditions (to ensure stable operation within ±5% under low voltage output conditions). .

In addition, as a new function, there is also a built-in response performance selection function, which can be easily switched between "voltage fluctuation priority (industry ultra-stable operation)" and "capacitance reduction priority (22μF small capacity stable operation)" by pin setting. The expected stable operation can be easily achieved not only at the time of preliminary design but also at the time of specification or model change, thus contributing to a significant reduction in power circuit design man-hours.
