Renesas Electronics, a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, announces the RZ/N2L Microprocessor (MPU) for Industrial Ethernet Communications—Effortlessly adding networking capabilities to industrial equipment and modules. The RZ/N2L conforms to numerous industry standard specifications and protocols, facilitating the development of industrial automation equipment requiring real-time capabilities. The new products support the increasingly popular Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) Ethernet standard, ensuring real-time communications. The new devices feature TSN-compliant 3-port Gigabit Ethernet switches and EtherCAT slave controllers and support all major industrial network communication protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET RT, EtherNet/IP and OPC UA, as well as newly supported PROFINET IRT.

Users can use the RZ/N2L as a network companion processor to the host CPU, adding Industrial Ethernet functionality to the device without major changes to its internal configuration. This enables users to develop industrial equipment with fast, precise synchronous control of factory automation.

"It is common practice to modify the entire design of a device to implement Industrial Ethernet functionality, which creates a huge development burden in terms of time and cost," said Biren Bai, vice president of the Industrial Automation Business Unit at Renesas Electronics. Challenge, Renesas has developed the RZ/N2L. It is optimized as an add-on to existing systems. I believe this product will enable users to rapidly deploy state-of-the-art industrial networks with minimal system modifications.”

"The TSN standard is growing rapidly and I expect RZ/N2L, which supports this standard, will further accelerate the adoption of Ethernet in the factory automation market," said Dietmar R. Franke, CEO/CFO of Port Industrial Automation Ltd. "We are planning for RZ /N2L releases GOAL middleware for multi-protocol real-time communications to help our customers implement Industrial Ethernet communications technology into their devices.”
