Melexis introduced its next member of the MeLiBu family, the MLX81143 LED driver. It consists of 21 LED drivers, which enhances the power management of the whole system. The device has a very wide dimming range, and can adjust the best brightness at night and during the day. MeLiBu interface can drive up to 3000 leds in a vehicle at the same time. The system allows dynamic safety warnings and communication with the driver.

The driver addresses these challenges by integrating the Melexis CAN on the UART MeLiBu solution. This high-speed communication interface controls a single led to achieve the lighting effect set by the vehicle system. The intelligent RGB LED controller also provides real-time compensation for any color drift caused by environmental changes and a mixing accuracy of less than 1% to eliminate any distinguishable differences between LEDs.

MeLiBu technology has been used by many automobile manufacturers around the world. Its communication interface uses CAN-FD physical layer to provide robust and reliable performance at a speed of up to 2Mbit. The combination of UART and MeLiBu protocol ensures intelligent and high-resolution operation, and reduces temperature related color drift. A user experience that is consistent and does not distract users under all operating conditions.

The equipment complies with AEC-Q100 and ASIL standards. It complies with ISO 26262 functional safety requirements and supports ASIL B integration. The driver architecture can help designers meet EMC requirements. It shows low EMI emissions and a high level of EMI immunity.

MLX81143 is already the third Melexis product integrating MeLiBu. This technology makes it possible to expand the lighting system and new application functions, "said Michael Bender, manager of Melexis embedded lighting product line. "The new member of our MeLiBu product family further reduces the amount of silicon required for each application by supporting higher LED counts. It also improves power management due to intelligent options integrated in ICs."
