Toshiba Europe Corporation announced the launch of its latest enterprise-class hard disk drive (HDD) series AL14SE series, which is designed for mission-critical servers and high-performance, high-availability storage systems. AL14SE is Toshiba's latest 10,500 rpm hard disk, which supports 12.0 Gbit / s SAS and 512n sector lengths to be compatible with the latest generation of host controllers and host bus adapters.
The AL14SE has a new four-disc design that provides a 33% increase in storage capacity compared to previous AL13SE models. Improve performance by integrating a newer 128MB data buffer. AL14SE series hard disks provide industry standard capacities of 300 GB, 450 GB, 600 GB, 900 GB, and 1200 GB [1], providing 12.0 Gbit / s dual-port SAS support and 512n sector model [2].
HDD is designed to support OEM customization of value-added features, such as optional RAID reconstruction assist functions and optional self-encrypting feature set. The standard 12.0 Gbit / s SAS function can provide auto-negotiation with the old host controller and 6.0 Gbit / s SAS, thereby achieving compatibility between the old hardware platform and the host controller.
For applications and hypervisor environments that require storage devices to support 512n sectors, the new Toshiba model can provide this sector length, with improved performance of 12.0 Gbit / s SAS and a larger 128MB data buffer. The company said that the AL14SE is well-suited for servers, storage systems, and applications to achieve a balance between storage capacity and performance in a virtual storage environment.
