Toshiba Electronic Components has added five new products to its lineup of TCK42xG series MOSFET gate driver ICs for mobile devices such as wearables. The new products in this series are equipped with an overvoltage lockout function and control the gate voltage of the external MOSFET according to the input voltage.
These new products include "TCK420G" for 24V power lines; "TCK422G" and "TCK423G" for 12V power lines; "TCK424G" for 9V power lines; and "TCK425G" for 5V power lines. These products are now available with the already released "TCK421G" for 20V power lines.
With the additions, the TCK42xG series now supports user selection of gate-source voltages of 10V and 5.6V, covering a wider variety of MOSFETs. In addition, the different detection voltages supported by the input overvoltage lockout function enable the product to be used on power lines from 5V to 24V. When combined with external back-to-back MOSFETs, they are also suitable for configuring load switching circuits (Figure 1) or power multiplexer circuits with reverse current blocking (Figure 2). In addition, since their built-in charge pump circuits support a wide range of input voltages from 2.7V to 28V, they can provide a regulated voltage between the gate and source of external back-to-back MOSFETs by intermittent operation to support high current switching.
The TCK42xG family is available in the WCSP6G[1] package. Available in a 1.2mm x 0.8mm chip size package. This is also the industry's ultra-small package [2]. It enables high-density mounting in small devices such as wearables and smartphones, helping to reduce their form factor.
Toshiba has also developed a "Power Multiplexer Circuit" reference design. This is a reference design example of a power multiplexer based on the TCK42xG function.
